TRAINS, MILKWEED, LITTLE PEOPLE AND OTHER MIRACLES OF FALL

Fall is my favorite time of the year. Partly because I finally can spend more time with my family after a busy editorial and wedding photography season. But also because of tranquility. Long walks. That damn delicious fresh air in my lungs. And definitely fair amount of melancholy.
My daughter and I got few routine projects we go through every time we’re roaming our neighborhood.  Trying to catch the train go by is a big one. For this one we either need to get lucky to be there when it comes, or be lucky enough to hear it approaching from far away. So we could run to the train tracks and see the train pass Mother Verony’s house.
Recently we started adding another stop to our train route these days- to see fluffy. Or “pūkutis”, as my daughter and I call it in Lithuanian.
I know we are not the only ones attracted to milkweed pods full of seeds. Hypnotizing fluffy seeds. You take the seeds out, wait for your dad to pick you up so you’re higher than the world, wait for the wind breeze to appear.
And then open up that little hand and watch little magic happen.
We would take couple milkweed heads ant the time, so we can come back tomorrow, and day after tomorrow. We savor it. Every little bit of it.
And we laugh. And we wait for the train to come by. But there is no train horn. We might have missed it already- we don’t know.
And we don’t care.
